The resort is located in Windham County, Vermont and has grown considerably from its humble beginnings in December 1961 when it opened with three double chairlifts, a three-story day lodge at the base and dirt access road. Major expansion to the resort began for the 1964-1965 season with the opening of the Sun Bowl, the addition of a double chairlift and over 30 acres of terrain.

The ski resort has evolved into a four-season resort complete with a pedestrian village, lodging, dining and shopping and is one of Vermont’s largest ski areas. A well-known fact or perhaps a forgotten place in history is that Stratton Mountain Resort was the first major ski resort to open its slopes to snowboarding.

Although, the closest airport is located in the neighbouring state of New York in the city of Albany, if you prefer not to travel between states, the Burlington International Airport is located 113mi/182km north of Stratton Mountain Resort and is serviced by the major air carriers.
