The ski and snowboard resort is known as family-friendly and is located in Northwest Colorado on Mount Werner in the Routt National Forest and has been in operation since 1963.

It is located near the western city of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The city of Steamboat Springs is home to the only marching band on skis, and if you visit Steamboat during the annual winter carnival, usually held in early February, you will be treated to 5 days of family-friendly activities. Steamboat Ski Resort is home to the legendary Billy Kidd. Billy can usually be spotted on the slopes wearing his signature cowboy hat.

On the Slopes

  • Steamboat Ski Resort is comprised of Mount Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Thunderhead Peak, Pioneer Ridge, and Christie Peak. It does not matter what your skiing or snowboarding skill level is, as there is an incredible selection of terrain for everyone to enjoy.
  • “Why Not” is the longest run at Steamboat Ski Resort and is a 3mi/4.8km green run located off the Thunderhead Express. This run is definitely a great way to get your day started or finish-off an amazing day on the slopes.
  • If you are looking for a challenge, the terrain off the Sunshine Express lift will excite most levels of skiers or snowboarders with its long intermediate runs.
  • Steamboat Ski Resort has earned a worldwide reputation for its “Champagne Powder”, which will please even the most avid powder hounds. Steamboat is so proud of their great powder they have a trademark on the name.
  • Check out Morningside Park located on the backside of the Steamboat Ski Resort, because when it snows it usually has some of the best powder to play in.
  • Steamboat Ski Resort features wonderful tree glades for skiing or snowboarding and ranks highly among its peers in this area.

Off the Slopes

  • You can choose to stay in the mountain village or the town of Steamboat Springs; both have a good selection of lodging and non-mountain activities.
  • Hard day on the slopes? Be sure to check out the Old Town Hot Springs on Lincoln Avenue to soothe those tired muscles.
  • Steamboat Ski Resort hosts over 100 bars and restaurants, so there are dining options to suit everyone’s tastes.
  • Steamboat Springs Transit offers “free” transit from the mountain to the town of Steamboat Springs.
