Soda Springs Ski Resort in California and Escape2ski provide you with information about this ski resort, such as its vertical drop of 625ft/199m, total trails of 15, closest airport 49mi/79km, plus resort activities, snow reports, nearby lodging options, webcams and a total of 5 lifts.

Soda Springs Ski Resort is located 1mi / 1.6km off Interstate 80 or I-80 near the Donner Summit in California. The ski area opened in 1931 and currently holds the distinction of being the oldest operating ski area in California and one the oldest in North America. It is nestled alongside the South Yuba River near the small community of Soda Springs, which is located on the opposite side of the river.

The Community of Soda Springs has roots dating back to 1870 and was a part of the landscape long before skiing was established in the area. Soda Springs Ski Resort may be smaller than other resorts in the area, but on a day when it snows, and it does, the powder snow found on the mountain provides a great backdrop for an amazing day of skiing and snowboarding.

Soda Springs Ski Resort will bring you back to your early days on the slopes when the only thing that mattered was fun with your friends. Today, the ski area has a reputation as the winter playground for families looking to escape the city.

With Sacramento, California being only 97mi / 156km away, it is the perfect getaway location to get away from the city for a day or weekend. Soda Springs Ski Resort is the perfect training ground for newcomers but still provides a great experience for intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders.

On the Slopes

  • Even though Soda Springs Ski Resort would be classified as a beginner to intermediate ski area, it is still a great place for all skiers and boarders to have fun.
  • There is also a terrain park for the those wishing glide over rails and boxes for an added dimension of fun.
  • The Crystal Bowl chair is your ticket to the summit, and from here if you are in for a little hike you can gain some extra vertical for your descent down Nose Dive or Race Course. On a powder day, it is worth the effort.
  • Lessons are available for all ages from the dedicated team of snowsport instructors. Lessons types are Learn to Ski, Planet Kids for 8 and under that occur every 30 minutes and more.

Off the Slopes

  • Soda Springs Ski Resort is a day ski and snowboard area only. If you plan on staying for more than a day, Truckee, only 14mi / 23km to the east is one of the best options for lodging, shopping, nightlife, and dining.
  • Soda Springs Ski Resort features a Main Daylodge where you can stop for a break and enjoy the cafeteria, visit the retail shop, purchase lift tickets and get fitted for rentals. Parking is also free.
  • The ski area features many activities other than skiing or snowboarding. Check out Tube Town with a dedicated surface lift and up to 20 lanes depending on mother natures’ generosity with snow.
  • Planet Kids Fun Zone, which features many activities that do not include social media, such as climbing, snowman building, tube carousels and mini snowmobiles.
