The Quechee Lakes Ski Area is part of a planned community known as the Quechee Lakes Landowners Association. Quechee Lakes is located along the Ottauquechee River in the quaint community of Quechee, Vermont.

The Ski Area, which opened in 1970, was built to complement the other seasonal activities making it a genuine four-season recreation area. In 2005, the ski area added its first quad chair, known simply as Quadzilla and has since earned the reputation as the best place to learn to ski in Vermont.

Although this is a member’s association, the Quechee Lakes Ski Area is now open to the general public. The town of Woodstock, Vermont is located approximately 15 minutes away by vehicle.

If you happen to be in town in early February, you won’t want to miss the annual Kids Cardboard Derby, which is generally held on the 3rd Saturday in February and has been going strong for over 20 years. Sleds are made mostly of cardboard; children dress in costumes, and prizes are awarded in various categories.

Woodstock, once an active industry town used the water from the Ottauquechee River to power its mills, now it has been transformed into a must-see tourist destination. Quechee Lakes offers the quintessential charm that Vermont is known for, from the beautiful countryside to friendly people and wide-open spaces. Be careful; you may not want to leave.

On the Slopes

  • Quechee Lakes Ski Area is definitely a great place for families or anyone new to skiing or snowboarding. The ski area offers a wide-open beginners area where you’ll find extra turning space and areas to practice.
  • In the event Mother Nature is not in a snowy mood, Quechee Lakes Ski Area has 100% snowmaking capability, so the Quadzilla lift is always available.
  • The terrain is a mixture of runs to suit all ability levels, and due to its crowd-free slopes, on a powder day, the only markings on the trail may be your own from the previous run. And as a bonus, free sleigh rides are available on weekends from the base lodge to the chairlift.
  • There is one Terrain Park, which is accessible via the Quadzilla Lift or the T-Bar and comes complete with various jibs to test, practice or improve your skills.
  • There is a snow school available for children and adults who want to get excited about life on the snow either as a skier or snowboarder. And if you only need a few pointers to refresh your techniques, instructors are there to help. Lessons can be with a group, or private lessons are available.
