If you Plan a Ski Trip to Manning Park Resort, located along Highway 3 in Southern British Columbia, you will discover a ski area with incredible scenery.
A Day at the Park, Manning Park Resort that is!
The ski area is tucked away in Gibson’s Pass, and approximately 118km/74mi from Chilliwack, BC along Highway 3. Even though you are only 60 minutes from away from the city, you’ll feel like you are truly in the wilderness, which in fact you are. When you plan a ski trip Manning Park Resort, families have time to reconnect and experience nature, plus enjoy skiing, snowboarding, tubing, ice skating, snowshoeing and much more!
The ski area opened for downhill skiing in the early 1960’s and over 50 years later it is still offering a great day on the slopes from two distinct areas of the mountain, serviced by the Orange chairlift and the Blue Double Chairlift. The distinctive colours of the chairlifts act as markers to separate the two sections of the mountain. They also act as a meeting point for friends and family as there is no cellular service on the mountain to phone anyone. Manning Park Resort likes to keep you focused on the experience, not your social media!
The ski area is located approx 10km/6mi from the main lodge and parking is still free at both the lodge and ski area. When you plan a ski trip to Manning Park Resort you will find there is also a shuttle service that operates continually throughout the day from the main lodge to the ski area, and yes it is also free! The Manning Park Area of British Columbia, which includes both winter and summer activities, has been offering what marketing people now call a “four season experience” for over 50 years. Many changes have taken place over the past 50 years, but one thing that has remained constant is the beauty that surrounds Manning Park, no matter which season you visit.
The Escape2ski Team visited this family-friendly mountain on New Year’s Eve (Dec 31, 2016), which rounded out our year on a positive note. Due to snowfall the night before, we were excited to arrive at the mountain to enjoy some fresh powder and to see the smiles on the faces of the skiers and snowboarders who were there with us. It had been several years since we had the opportunity to grace the slopes of Manning Park Resort, so we were excited to see what was happening at the mountain. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the Director of Marketing, Robyn Barker, who was gracious enough to spend the day with the Escape2ski Team showing us all that Manning Park Resort Ski Area has to offer. Robyn, as well as, the many generations of the Barker family who have been a part of this special place are passionate ambassadors of the resort and unique position it has played in BC’s skiing industry.
Robyn toured the Escape2ski Team all over the mountain, including the Apple Bowl, which features a hike-to area, if you want more vertical for your descent. Note, this area is recommended for strong intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders. Don’t worry if you are not at that level; there is plenty of interesting terrain along with the spectacular views to enjoy. The Featherstone area of the Manning Park Ski Area offers many of the characteristics of a bowl; limited trees, an abundance of snow and great fall lines. If this was not enough to keep us entertained, we then visited the Blue Face found near the Blue Chair where an abundance of powder awaited us. Powder to the top of our ski boots, plus fantastic run after run, after run, who could ask for more!
If you haven’t been there for a while, like Escape2ski, make sure you mark a few days on the calendar to plan a ski trip to Manning Park Resort for you and your family to visit this special place. We’re glad we did as the services provided at both the ski area and the main lodge area are well worth the trip from wherever you call home.
Since our visit, there has been an announcement from the resort. The summer of 2017 will see the construction of 5 new cabins that will be ready for the 2017/2018 winter season. That being said, it will be even easier to plan a ski trip to Manning Park Resort in the future.
