The ski resort is located in the Olympic Valley of North Lake Tahoe, California. The ski resort opened in 1949 and was modeled after the quintessential European ski destination. In 1960, the ski resort received a huge amount of exposure as the host to the Winter Olympics Games. These games were the first to be televised, which meant that the world could see all that this mountain resort had to offer.

Also during the 1960 Winter Olympics, the valley was designated as a California Historical Landmark. The Ski Resort is home to approximately 3600 acres of skiable terrain, six peaks and at least five alpine bowls, including G5, North, and Sun just to name a few, as well as an average of 450in/1143cm of snow per year.

A Palisades Ski Resort lift ticket also provides you with access to Alpine Meadows, the sister mountain located just 10-minutes away, and free shuttles depart from each resort every half-hour. The ski resort also provides on select weekends a chance to ski or snowboard under the stars.

The time has finally arrived, Palisades Tahoe Ski Resort and Alpine Meadows Ski Resort are finally being linked together beginning for the 2022/2023 ski and snowboard season with a Base to Base Gondola. The Base to Base Gondola will connect the two valleys of the resorts making Palisades Tahoe the largest ski resort in the state of California. The overall travel distance of the gondola is 2.4 miles/3.84km in eight passenger cabins.
