Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont & Escape2ski provides info on; vertical drop 2200ft/671m, total trails 121, closest airport 90mi/145km, lifts 20, and more.

The Resort is located in Central Vermont near the town of Ludlow, which started as a small mill town, and then grew rapidly as people moved into the area seeking employment at the General Electric plant.

The plant provided a stable economic climate for Ludlow and the nearby Okemo Mountain Resort until 1977 when the General Electric closed its facility, leaving the town to rely mostly on tourism.

Okemo Mountain Resort opened on January 31, 1956, with only a few trails serviced by two Poma Lifts. It was the vision of several local businessmen hoping to attract winter enthusiasts to the area.

Further development and expansion at Okemo Mountain Resort began in 1961 with the introduction of mountainside lodging to attract the vacationing skier. In the early 1960’s, four more Poma Lifts were added, and finally to the delight of the skiers in 1965, the first chairlift; a double was added.

The Resort has stood the test of time and has been going strong for more than 50 years. Today, Okemo Mountain Resort is a four-season ski and snowboard area that has earned its place as an incredible destination resort.
