The ski resort is located on Lake Tahoe’s north shore in Placer County. The origins of Northstar California was not as a ski and snowboard destination but home to a lumber site owned by the Douglas Lumber Co of Truckee, California.

The resort opened in December 1972 under the name Northstar-at-Tahoe which is only a short drive from the historic lumber town of Truckee, California. Northstar California Ski Resort as we know it today has grown from a humble start into a four-season resort complete with a vibrant village and incredible amenities.

The resort is located about 45 minutes from Reno, Nevada and is accessible by four major airports. Shuttle services are also available to the resort from Reno, North Lake Tahoe, Sacramento, and the Bay area.

On the Slopes

• This truly family-friendly mountain resort boasts 3170 skiable acres and an average yearly snowfall of 350in/889cm.
• The terrain is comprised of beginner, intermediate and advanced runs with the emphases on intermediate and beginner terrain. However, there is some great fall-line riding off the Backside Express on Burnout, Polaris and Iron Horse.
• Over the years there has been the addition of glades and advanced trails on the Backside and Lookout Mountain for skiers that want more of a challenge.
• Northstar California Ski Resort plays hosts to the Burton Snowboard Academy, which is a program that has been developed to welcome new snowboarders to the sport and encourage present riders to continue their learning.

Off the Slopes

• Visitors to Northstar California Ski Resort can choose to stay in the authentic, historic town of Truckee, which hosts many attractions, amenities and accommodations or in the resort’s alpine village.
• Northstar California Ski Resort offers a cozy mountain village with diverse lodging options including hotel style rooms, village lofts, studios, condominiums, and mountain homes, as well as, 35 shops and a good selection of restaurants.
• If you are looking for activities to supplement your time on the slopes, the resort offers an outdoor ice-skating rink, tubing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
• Persons with disabilities can enjoy year-round access to the Village at Northstar and seasonal access to the mountain with the convenience of designated ADA wheelchair accessible parking and services options.
• Dial-a-Ride is Truckee's door-to-door service that provides persons with disabilities access to the resort. Reservations are advised one day in advance. The cost is $4 per person or $1 for seniors, persons with physical disabilities and children under 12.
• There is also the convenience of a parking lot shuttle to get you from your vehicle to the base of the mountain.
• Childcare is also available at the licensed Minors' Camp Childcare facility for ages 2 to 6 during the winter season.
