The ski resort is located in the southern part of the Green Mountains near West Dover, Vermont and is the closest big ski area to many metropolitan areas in the northeast. Mount Snow Ski Resort is actually located on Mount Pisgah and received its name from Reuben Snow, who sold 500 acres on the mountain to Walt Schoenknecht in May of 1953. Walt had an ambitious plan to create a winter recreation area on Mount Pisgah (Mount Snow) since he visited the area in the 1940’s.
The ski resort opened on December 12, 1954, with two rather interesting chain-driven double chairlifts and a rope tow that serviced five trails on two slopes. From its humble beginnings; Mount Snow Ski Resort has enjoyed almost too many changes to mention.
The ski resort is divided into four distinct areas, the Main Face, which provides the majority of beginner and intermediate terrain, the Carinthia terrain park paradise, the North Face that is home to most of the advanced slopes, and finally Sunbrook, where 99% of the terrain is intermediate.
The ski resort is recognized far beyond the local community as a family-friendly four-season, world-class ski and snowboard area that is dedicated to making continual improvements through the expansion of terrain, lifts, and services.
