Mont Sutton Ski Area is located near the town of Sutton in southeast Quebec. Since its inception, the Boulanger family has owned and operated the resort. The Boulanger family moved to the Sutton area in 1945 where Harold Boulanger, along with two partners founded Sutton Dairy Products.

The Boulanger brother’s enjoyed the sport of skiing, but the nearest mountain that offered lifts was quite a distance away. This combined with the dairy business being slow throughout the winter months, and their employees being laid off during this time, the idea of creating the ski facility emerged. It would keep people employed, and bring much-needed winter recreation to the area.

After much research, a detailed plan, and the help of Francois Levesque, a lawyer, and family friend Mont Sutton was created. To the delight of several celebrities and members of the government, the ski area opened on December 17, 1960, with four trails, a T-Bar, main lodge and only 10cm/4in of snow.

The ski area has seen continuous development over the years and during the 1961/1962 ski season; snowmaking equipment was installed to make sure there was always great snow on the slopes. Despite all the changes and improvements, the Mont Sutton Ski Area continues to pride itself on being a family-friendly mountain for everyone to enjoy.
