Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is located near the town of Mammoth Lakes, California in the Inyo National forest of Central California.
Mammoth was the vision of Dave McCoy who opened the resort in 1955 and operated the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area for 68 years until his retirement in 2005.
The ski area is the tallest ski area in California with a peak elevation of over 11,000ft / 3353m. It also has one of the longest ski seasons in North America, averaging from November to June each year.
Mammoth Mountain has grown significantly from its early days into a four season resort that has gained world attention.
On the Slopes
- Mammoth Mountain Ski Area has 3500 acres of uncrowded slopes with more than half of the runs suitable for those with a beginner or intermediate skill range. More advanced skiers will want to take the panoramic Gondola ride to the top to check out the upper bowl and Dave's Run.
- Check out Mammoth Unbound, the great selection of terrain parks featured at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area set the standard for terrain park design. This is a world-class facility that offers a great playground for beginner to pro.
- The Mammoth Mountain Ski and Snowboard School has a dedicated team of instructors ready to assist with private, adult group, kids and adaptive programs.
- There are many options for lodging on the mountain, depending on your tastes and desires, ranging from the ski-in ski-out Mammoth Mountain Inn, Tamarack Lodge, and Juniper Springs, as well as the Village Lodge located at the base of Mammoth Mountain in the Pedestrian Village.
Off the Slopes
- Off mountain activities include Woolly's Tube Park, snowmobiling, snowcat tours, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, bowling and indoor golf.
- While visiting Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and the town of Mammoth lakes you will discover many local gems, from family bakeries, to diverse dining and retail options.
- Mammoth Mountain Ski Area has two state licensed childcare facilities offering day, hourly and evening care. The locations are the Mammoth Mountain Inn and in the village.
- The town of Mammoth Lakes also features many wonderful hotels and motels to fit every budget, which are close to public transit.
- Mammoth Lakes provides free transit service to get you to and from the ski area and around town.
- Shuttle services are available to and from the Mammoth Lakes airport.
- Flying into the Mammoth Lakes area provides a nice time saving option from driving. Keep in mind that the airport is subject to changing weather conditions and you may experience delays.
