Harper Mountain Ski Area is located on Mt Harper, northeast of the city of Kamloops and was the vision of Max Daburger, a native of Bavaria, Peter Huser from Switzerland and Canadian, Paul Noelle. Max Daburger moved to Canada in 1951 where his skills as a carpenter led him to home building and working as a general contractor in the Kamloops area.

Despite his busy work life and raising four children with his wife Elizabeth, Max still maintained his passion for skiing and the dream of one-day opening and operating a ski facility. In order to make his dream a reality, Max was able to draw upon his many skills and take a hands-on approach to designing, building and opening Harper Mountain Ski Area to the public in December 1973. It opened with one T-Bar, a Handle Tow, 3 or 4 runs and a day lodge that was constructed by Max and fellow friends.

It was not until 1977, that ski area installed its first chairlift, a triple, named the Huser Triple in honor of Peter Huser, Max’s friend and co-founder. Harper Mountain Ski Area was created with the goal of building a truly family-friendly experience that everyone from the surrounding area and beyond could enjoy and remains this way today.

On the Slopes

  • Harper Mountain Ski Area has a variety of beginner, intermediate and expert terrain that is serviced by a chairlift and two surface lifts. There are even two expert trails, fittingly named Cliffhanger and Pioneer.
  • For the Terrain Park enthusiast, Harper Mountain Ski Area features a terrain park equipped with several features that will test your skills and is accessible from the T-Bar lift.
  • Harper Mountain Ski Area is also a great place to learn to ski or snowboard. There are group, private and even semi-private instruction opportunities available, along with the popular “3 Day Learn to Turn” program.

Off the Slopes

  • Even though this family-friendly mountain has no lodging available, it’s only a short drive to Kamloops where you’ll find amenities and lodging for every budget, dining for every taste, plus shopping at several malls.
  • Harper Mountain Ski Area has a licensed facility that serves hot wine created from a Swiss family recipe that has long been a favourite of many after a great day on the slopes. The cafeteria prides itself on serving hot meals, including being recognized as having the “best poutine” in the area.
  • The Harper Mountain Ski Area has a tubing area, complete with 4 lanes, serviced by a lift. Tubing is also available under the lights on Friday and Saturday.
  • The combination of fresh air, great snow, and hot chocolate make the 3km/2mi single groomed and track set cross-country trail loop and snowshoe area, an adventure you don’t want to miss.
  • The retail shop is great for any last minutes needs to make your day on the slopes more enjoyable.
