The ski area is located high above North Vancouver, British Columbia. As you look north from the City of Vancouver, the twinkling lights of Grouse Mountain Ski Area can be seen from far away. Located just 15-minutes from Downtown Vancouver, Grouse Mountain is the middle peak in is what is known as the North Shore Mountains.

It was named by a visiting hiking party in 1894 after they encountered a blue grouse bird on the alpine slopes. The mountains first lodge was built in the 1920’s; its first official season was in 1926, but it was not until 1949 that Grouse Mountain Ski Area saw the installation of its first chairlift.

To reach the main recreation area, visitors take the famous Grouse Mountain Skyride on a one-mile aerial journey to the Alpine Station.

On the Slopes

  • Grouse Mountain Ski Area contains enough varied terrain to challenge all skill levels of skiers and snowboarders, from the beginner terrain of The Cut and intermediate terrain of Sidecut and Expo to the advanced challenges of Blazes and Hades.
  • Unable to get to the slopes during the day, not to worry, 14 trails contain lights so you can enjoy the slopes under the stars seven nights a week.
  • On a clear day or night The Cut trail offers the most magnificent views of the lower mainland of Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the Gulf islands. You definitely don’t want to miss this!
  • Looking for Terrain Park action, you’ve come to the right place. Grouse Mountain has three Parks filled with jibs, boxes, rails and jumps to accommodate every level of ability from novice to expert.
  • Your journey begins as you exit the tram at the Alpine Station and enter a winter wonderland located high in the sky. Your list of activities goes well beyond skiing or snowboarding and includes sleigh rides, outdoor ice skating, mountain ziplines, snow limo tours, snowshoeing (on four groomed trails).

Off the Slopes

  • Regularly scheduled public transit is available for a fee to the base of the tram at Grouse Mountain. Transportation is provided by Translink. Use the “Helpful Links” below to determine your transit route to Grouse Mountain along with the cost of the fare.
  • You can only access the Grouse Mountain Ski Area via the famous Grouse Mountain Skyride, which hosts two Skyride Tram Cabins and one of the most Breathtaking panoramic views of the city, sea and surrounding mountains.
  • High up on Grouse Mountain exist various dining options, from fine dining at The Observatory to more casual fare at Altitudes Bistro, Lupins and several other choices at the Alpine Station or the base area of the tram. Retail can be found in the Spirit Gallery Gift Shop.
  • Worth mentioning is The Peak of Christmas, which is complimentary if you have a Grouse Mountain Alpine Experience ticket, Annual Membership, Winter Season Pass or Lift Ticket.
  • Planning on using your vehicle to get to Grouse Mountain, please take note that the paved parking lots are designated for paid parking. If you are planning more than single trip to Grouse, a yearly parking pass is a great option to reduce the cost.
