Boreal Mountain Resort is a family-friendly ski and snowboard area located on Boreal Ridge at the Donner Summit, west of Truckee, California.
The ski area is only 90miles/145km from Sacramento, California and is adjacent to Interstate 80 or I-80. The ski area opened in 1964 and since then has been providing a great winter experience for over 50 years to snow seeking enthusiasts of all types.
The ski resort is divided into 5 unique zones each offering a different experience. The zones are Accelerator, Beginner, 49er, Cedar Ridge and Flying Dutchman.
Boreal Mountain Resort has earned a reputation as a place where terrain park lovers can come and enhance their skill set. It is also the only ski area in the Lake Tahoe region to offer night skiing 7 days a week.
A unique feature at Boreal is the Woodard Tahoe, one-of-a-kind indoor training facility where you can improve your skills before taking to the slopes. Boreal Mountain Resort is known for its great atmosphere and provides a varied selection of things to do for everyone in the family.
On the Slopes
- Boreal Mountain Resort provides snowmaking coverage on nearly 80% of the mountain when Mother Nature is not so generous. The lift systems are positioned to allow ease of movement for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy the entire mountain.
- If you love terrain parks, you have a choice of 8 different parks at Boreal each with a different theme and challenge for all skill levels. Remember to ride with care.
- Boreal Mountain Resort features many types of ski and snowboards lessons ranging from group, private and children’s program to Ride with Woodward and the 360 Program. Their dedicated instructors will boost your confidence level while taking your skiing or snowboarding to the next level.
Off the Slopes
- There is no lodging at Boreal Mountain Resort. However, the town of Truckee, which is located east of the ski area, provides a good selection of lodging, dining, and shopping options.
- If you are considering working at Boreal Mountain Resort, there is employee housing available for up to 130 people. The accommodations are close to the ski area and provide bunk bed style beds, WI-FI, microwaves, TV’s, and fridges in each room.
- Playland Snow Tubing is a popular family-fun activity at Boreal Mountain Resort. There are two dedicated moving carpets and quality groomed tubing lanes. Passes are sold on an all day or 90-minute session basis.
- Nightlife, extended shopping, and dining options are limited at Boreal Mountain Resort. However, The Boreal Bar is located on the 3rd floor of the base lodge features a relaxing atmosphere after a great day on the slopes. Moondoe’s Café, the Waffle Cabin, and the Boreal Eatery are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and are located on the 2nd floor.
- Stop by the Underground Sports retail shop located on the first floor of the Boreal Base Lodge for any items that you need. They carry the most popular brands in the industry.
- Truckee Transit operates from December to March and will take you from town to the slopes for a fee of $2.50 (each way). Transit is free for Boreal employees.
