This family-friendly resort is located in Madison County in southwestern Montana. Big Sky Resort opened in December 1973 as the result of the vision of the late NBC newscaster and Montana native, Chet Huntley.

In Oct 2013, Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin (Big Sky’s neighbour on the north boundary) merged together to form one of the largest ski resorts in the United States. This magnificent area definitely lives up to its slogan, “America’s Biggest Skiing. Period”. With runs up to six miles long and glades and bowls covered in 400+ inches of annual snowfall, there’s something different for everyone.

On the Slopes

  • With only one ticket, Big Sky Resort gives you access to 5,850 skiable acres and mountain terrain that will satisfy everyone tastes and abilities. If you are interested in more relaxed terrain, Big Sky Resort has it, or if you prefer and a more expert adventure, Big Sky has that too.
  • If you are looking for some expert/extreme terrain, the Lone Peak Tram will transport you to the summit (11,166ft/3403m) and some of the most difficult terrain in the country. As you prepare yourself for the adventure ahead, take a moment to experience the 360-degree views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
  • Give yourself time to discover how vast Big Sky Resort truly is. With four mountain peaks to choose from, you will soon discover how difficult it is to ride the same trails twice. Even with such vast terrain, the mountain is easy to navigate.
  • Terrain Park enthusiasts get ready, Big Sky Resort features over 100 Jibs spread across 7 terrain parks, such as the smaller Cowpoke and Explorer, all the way to the more challenging, Maverick Park.
  • Big Sky Resort Ski and Snowboard School offers private, adult and youth group lessons, a guided experience, specialty clinics, adult and youth local programs, all through the team of professional instructors that are dedicated to making your time on the slopes incredible.
