Aspen Mountain in Colorado and Escape2ski provide you with information about this ski resort, such as its vertical drop of 3267ft/996m, total trails of 76, closest airport 4mi/7km, plus resort activities, snow reports, resort trail map, slope-side lodging options, webcams and a total of 8 chairlifts.

The city of Aspen, in Pitkin County is located at the base of the Aspen Snowmass mountain, sometimes referred to as Ajax Mountain. The Aspen Skiing Company was founded in 1946, and Aspen Mountain was the first of many mountain ventures for the company.

This Colorado area was originally founded as a mining camp during the silver boom. Today, Aspen Snowmass, as it is known throughout the resort industry, operates four mountains in total, which are all located a short distance from each other.

The Aspen Snowmass family of mountains are not interconnected but easily accessible by the local transit system. The city of Aspen (and Aspen Mountain) is a world-class destination with a flair for arts and culture but still retains its small city charm.

On the Slopes

  • Aspen Mountain, which is famous for it’s black diamond terrain, may only cover 675 acres, however; this is 675 acres of terrain has a variety of glades, bumps and steeps to keep your heart pumping. Worth noting is that there is no terrain park on Aspen Mountain.
  • Aspen Mountain has “no” designated beginner (green) trails. This is something to take note of when planning your Aspen adventure.
  • One huge convenience to visiting this resort is that you can purchase a lift ticket that entitles you to use it at all four of the Aspen Snowmass mountain areas.
  • Aspen Snowmass has a dedicated team of professional ski and snowboard instructors who will improve your ability to enjoy your time on the slopes. There are private, adult group, youth, guided experience and women only clinics available.
  • There are four on-mountain restaurants for your convenience, and as you descend down the mountain you will be treated to a lovely view of the city of Aspen, the airport and the many adjacent mountain peaks.

Off the Slopes

  • The City of Aspen is a collection of red brick buildings that offer a hint of how the past may have looked. It offers boutiques, dining covering every type of cuisine, shopping and many lodging choices depending upon you tastes. Interested in après ski, Aspen offers a great nightlife atmosphere with bars and nightclubs.
  • You can also find a good selection of family-friendly activities in Aspen, including an outdoor skating rink or the Aspen Recreation Center complete with pools and many other activities.
  • The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (Sardy Field) is situated northwest of Aspen Mountain and is quite possibly the closest airport to any major Mountain Resort in North America. The airport is serviced by the commercial airlines as well private operators.
  • The Galena Street Shuttle is a “free” service that operates continuously from the Rio Grande Parking Plaza to the Silver Queen Gondola located at the base of the mountain. Operating times are 8:15am to 5:00pm during winter and summer seasons.
  • The Roaring Fork Transit Authority provides “free” bus transportation between the four mountains - Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk Ski Area and Snowmass Ski Resort. This service operates from 8:00am to 4:30pm daily. From Aspen Mountain to Snowmass the bus service operates until 2:00am. Call 970-925-8484 for further information.
