Vail Mountain Resort in Colorado and Escape2ski connect you to skiing, snowboarding, snow reports, trail maps, lift tickets, lodging, adaptive and webcams. Vail Resort is located in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Two visionaries, Pete Siebert and Earl Eaton, who saw the enormous potential of the location and the terrain, founded the resort. Vail Mountain Resort opened for business Dec 14, 1962 and is unique in that it was developed as a resort, not from the remains of a former mining town as most Colorado ski areas were. A milestone was achieved by Escape2ski at Vail Mountain Resort, it was the 100th mountain on the incredible journey. Each day it was exciting to see what mother-nature had in the way of conditions for the day, powder in the bowls or sun with blue sky on well-groomed terrain. Vail Mountain Resort is 7 mi/11kms across, making it the single largest resort in the USA by distance, not skiable acres. During the winter season, Community Guest Service volunteers provide complimentary tours of Vail Mountain for any guest whose ability level is intermediate or above. Vail Mountain Resort has even Trademarked the name, “Like nothing on earth” and after a visit to Vail, you’ll see why.

At Escape2ski you’ll find out – What to know…before the snow.

On the Slopes

  • Vail Mountain Resort has 3 sections, the Front-Side, Blue Sky Basin, and the Back Bowls, which offer a vast selection of diverse terrain to suit any ability.
  • Vail Mountain Resort has 10 Bowls (7 official). The famous Back Bowls such as China and Teacup offer wide open skiing and amazing views. On a powder day, the back bowls fill up with snow to add to your skiing and snowboarding pleasure.
  • If seeking a challenge, try advanced terrain on the Front-Side slopes of Prima or Riva Ridge. These trails are long with great fall-lines.
  • Want to track and share your time on the slopes? Check out EpicMix Vail's connection of the on-mountain experience to the digital world - track your vertical feet, earn pins, share photos and race against your friends, on your PC or mobile device.

Off the Slopes

  • Vail Mountain Resort consists of 3 distinct base areas, Vail Village and Lionshead, where you’ll find most of the lodging, shops and restaurants, plus Golden Peak, which is home to the ski school. Pedestrian-friendly heated streets link each of the 3 base areas.
  • Need a day off the slopes? Vail has many on-mountain and off-mountain activities to keep you busy, ranging from a great selection of spas to cross-country skiing and a family-friendly, multi-activity, adventure park.
  • Transit service throughout Vail is “free”, making it easy to access almost anywhere in the Vail area without touching your car.
  • In the Village of Lionshead, you can find the Resort Information Centre, which is an excellent resource to help you make the most out of your visit to Vail. Opened daily, 8:00am – 5:00pm during the winter season.
