Sugarbush Resort is located in the Mad River Valley of upper central Vermont. The Mad River Valley is a picturesque area, with its early beginnings in the manufacturing of lumber and clapboard and is now known for tourism. Sugarbush Resort, which opened on December 25, 1958 as a result of the vision of Damon Gadd and Jack Murphy. In 1979, after many years of growth, Glen Ellen Ski Area, (known as Mount Ellen) was sold to Roy Gohen, who then created a framework for the Sugarbush Resort we know today. Over the years, Sugarbush Resort has experienced many growing pains and several ownership groups with great visions. Perhaps one of the most significant changes to Sugarbush Resort and possibly the resorts largest expansion came when American Skiing Company purchased the Resort.
