Owls Head in Quebec’s Eastern Townships and Escape2ski connect you to skiing, snowboarding, snow reports, trail maps, lift tickets, lodging, and webcams. The ski area is located on the western shore of Lac Memphremagog in the community Mansonville, Quebec. The name Owls Head is derived from the Native American Tribe, Abenaki, which is one of the Algonquian-speaking peoples of North Eastern North America. Owl was the name of their greatest chief and following his death the local mountain was given the name in his honour and to preserve his spirit. Take a leap to the mid-1960’s when Fred Korman, an electrician by trade and his wife Lillian had the vision to create a four-season family recreation facility on and around Owls Head. The choice was perfect, incredible scenery, awesome terrain potential on the mountain and close proximity to a lake for summer enjoyment. Fred formed the Owls Head Development Corporation and decided to retain the name in honour of the local history. With much excitement, Owls Head opened on Dec 18, 1965, with two chairlifts, a T-Bar and six trails. The resort has continued to develop over the years, part of this development was the installation of the High-Speed Lake Quad Chair, which is from a popular Colorado resort. When this chairlift was originally installed in Colorado, it was the first ever High-Speed Quad installed in North America. Owls Head has been a family operated facility for over 50 years and is still run by Fred, his wife Lillian, daughter Caroll and their dedicated staff.
