Mt Rose Ski Tahoe in Nevada near Lake Tahoe and Escape2ski connect you to skiing, snowboarding, snow reports, trail maps, lift tickets, lodging and webcams. The ski area is located on the Northeast side of Lake Tahoe. More specifically, east of Truckee, California and just 25 minutes south of the famous Reno, Nevada alongside Nevada State Road 431(SR431) in the Carson Range. Mt Rose Ski Tahoe is not actually located on Mount Rose, which is an extinct volcano. It is located on Slide Mountain, which is on the other side of road, SR431. Mt Rose Ski Tahoe was created in 1987 after the merger of two competing ski areas, both located on Slide Mountain. Slide Mountain Ski area on the east face (original name Reno Ski Bowl) opened in 1953, and Mt Rose Ski area on the north side opened in 1964. Mt Rose Ski Tahoe can claim the highest base elevation of any of the ski areas in the Reno-Tahoe region, has 1200+ acres of terrain and an average snowfall of 350 inches/889cm.

On the Slopes

  • The Chutes at Mt Rose Ski Tahoe offer 200 plus acres of North facing slopes, heart pumping, thigh burning terrain that provide some of the longest continuous verticals runs in North America. Access to this area is through 9 separate gates. In this area, it is crucial to be very sure of your ability level as this is expert terrain. Also for your safety respect all closure signs.
  • Mt Rose Ski Tahoe has three terrain parks that should accommodate all of your needs. DoubleDown and Badlands are smaller parks that host some unique features for their size. Pondo is the largest of the three parks and is filled with boxes, cannon rails, tabletops, and a great selection of jumps for catching some big air.
  • Access to the summit of Mt Rose Ski Tahoe is via two High-Speed six-passenger chairs, which will quickly get you to the top to start your day on the slopes. Caution, it is a good idea to know your ability level before venturing to the summit as many of the trails in the area are advanced in nature.
  • More of an intermediate terrain seeker, just off the Blazing Zephyr 6 Chairlift you will be greeted with the Sunrise Bowl and the larger Slide Bowl. Both offer wide-open terrain and great views into the valley below. Simply amazing!
  • Mt Rose Ski Tahoe is also a great place for families to enjoy their time on the slopes with lots of terrain suited for the novice or first-time visitor to the slopes. You can access this area from the Ponderosa and Galena lift. Several Snow School programs are available for children, as well as, programs specific to women’s or clinics for adults.

Off the Slopes

  • Mt Rose Ski Tahoe is only a short drive from Reno, Nevada, which is well known for its nightlife, gambling, entertainment and dining from casual to fine. On a clear day, Mt Rose Ski Tahoe has a wonderful of the valley below and the City of Reno as you descend to the Winters Creek Lodge.
  • Mt Rose Ski Tahoe hosts two, day lodges: the Main lodge and Winters Creek Lodge where you can grab a bite and take a break from the slopes. Both lodges have the added convenience of WiFi coverage.
  • Interested in leaving the driving to someone else, great choice. On Saturdays and holidays throughout the winter season a shuttle service is available from Reno, Nevada with several pickup locations. There is a small fee and reservations are recommended. Check the Mt Rose website for the most current information. Note: Walk-ons are only permitted at the final pickup location.
  • There are no on-mountain accommodations at Mt Rose, but great choices exist in Reno. Located only 25 minutes away, you can spend your days on the slopes and your evening enjoying the many attractions and nightlife that Reno has to offer.
