The ski area is located near the community of Government Camp, Oregon on the East Face of Mt Hood. Mt Hood holds the privilege of being Oregon’s highest mountain, a dormant volcano and is home to 12 named glaciers. Mt Hood Meadows opened in December 1967 with 2 Chairlifts, 1 T-Bar and 1 Rope Tow. The opening came several years after the original idea was planned, and studies for creating winter recreation on Mt Hood were completed. Mt Hood Meadows is the largest ski area within the Mt Hood area and has the option of night skiing on 140 acres on select nights. Nearby lodging is available in the community of Government Camp, Oregon, which is a quaint and charming area, complete with shops, food and beverage, as well as, a good selection of lodging choices. Hood River is another option for lodging and other amenities, but falls outside of Escape2ski’s 20mi/33km limit, so it is not mentioned in our listings, however it is a good choice if you don’t mind the 35mi/56km distance.
