Mount Norquay Ski Resort near Banff, Alberta and Escape2ski connect you to skiing, snowboarding, snow reports, trail maps, lift tickets, lodging & webcams. Mount Norquay Ski Resort is located a short distance on the opposite side of the Trans Canada Highway from town of Banff, Alberta and is also within the boundaries of the world known Banff National Park. The mountain is the closest Banff resort to the City of Calgary. At 112 km (69 miles) from the City limits, Mount Norquay Ski Resort is a short 1 hour drive on the Trans Canada Highway. Mount Norquay was named after John Norquay who was a former Premier of Manitoba. Reports have it that he climbed the mountain, but it is unclear if he ever reached the summit. The ski resort is famous for being the training ground for Olympic and World Cup athletes, with trails that date back to 1926 and it has the distinction of being the first mountain in Canada to install a chairlift which dates back to 1948. This fine and ski and snowboarding area and its incredible views is part of what is known throughout Canada and world as SkiBig3.

On the Slopes:
Mount Norquay Ski Resort may be the smallest of the other resorts in the area, but do not let that fool you. Lone Pine is considered to be one of the steepest runs accessed by a chairlift in North America. Note: do not fall; it is a long slide to the bottom.

The remaining terrain is a collection of green, blue, and advanced terrain. Every ability level from the novice to the advanced/expert will be glad that they included this mountain as part of their snowriding adventure.

The Terrain Park at the Mount Norquay Ski Resort provides a challenge for every level of ability with features such as rails, jumps and boxes. Also, a huge plus is that the Park is fully lit on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Mount Norquay Ski Resort has the distinction of having the only night session in the Banff National Park and skiing or riding is offered on Friday and Saturday nights.

New to Mount Norquay and would like to see the mountain from an experienced eye; Mountain Hosts meet at 10:00am and 1:30pm for a “free” guided tour around the mountain.

Off the Slopes:
Mount Norquay Ski Resort is tailored towards families, with daycare facilities, children’s ski/snowboard programs and a tubing facility that is filled with excitement. Not travelling with the family, don’t worry there are lots of “adult” activities to keep everyone happy from après ski at the Cascade Lodge to a visit to the historic Cliff House to take in the breath-taking views.

Snowshoeing is an awesome way to explore Banff Norquay. There are three different trail options. Stoney Squaw Loop Trail is the easiest and will take you approximately 1hr to complete. Stoney Squaw Summit Trail and the Prune Pickers Trail are of moderate to difficult rating, and you should allow 2 to 2.5hrs to complete these trails.

The town of Banff, located only a short distance away has a great selection of accommodation and lots of shopping and dining options to choose from. Spend a day walking the main street of this quaint, authentic town surrounded by wonderful scenery.

At Escape2ski you’ll find out – What to know…before the snow.
