Marmot Basin near Jasper, Alberta and Escape2ski connect you to skiing, snowboarding, snow reports, trail maps, lift tickets, lodging and webcams. Marmot Basin is the only ski & snowboard area located in Jasper National Park. Although the first rope tow began operating under the guidance of Toby Rayner in 1961, it was not until 1964 that Parks Canada issued a License of Occupation and the early development of Marmot Basin began. The ski area holds the destination of having the highest base elevation of any ski area or ski resort in Canada 1698m/5570ft. The ski area is just a short scenic drive from the town of Jasper, Alberta. Jasper started as a railway town and is known for the awe-inspiring beauty of its surroundings. Now a centre for tourism, it is part of the UNESCO Canadian Rockies World Heritage Site.

On the Slopes

  • Despite what the trail map might convey, with over 86 marked trails, the ski and snowboard runs are split evenly between easy, intermediate and advanced, making this an ideal destination for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. You’ll find terrain suited to the first-timer on the lower slopes and advanced and expert terrain in the higher alpine, spread over four mountain faces.
  • An uncrowded atmosphere and the dry Alberta powder are just some of the reasons skiers and snowboarders return to Marmot Basin season after season. With no waiting in lift lines, you have lots of room to breathe and even more time on the slopes.
  • The Rogers Terrain Park at Marmot Basin comes complete with rails, boxes, wall rides and hitching posts. It is a great place for all ability levels improve their skills; catch some air and most importantly to have fun.
  • How does one describe the views from Marmot Basin as you enjoy your day skiing or snowboarding - incredible, spectacular, magnificent, breath-taking, picturesque or all of the above? The best advice we can offer to anyone contemplating a visit to Marmot Basin is to see it for yourself; you will not be disappointed.
  • Marmot Basin is perfect for families with terrain that everyone can enjoy. They also offer several programs for children in the Snow Sports School, ranging from Marmot Kids Day Camp, ages 6-12 years as well as Tiny Tracks for ages 4 & 5.
  • Need a break from the slopes? Marmot Basin has three mountain day lodges, one at the base and two mid-mountain. Here you’ll find three lounges, two cafeterias, two dining rooms and several outdoor sun decks.

Off the Slopes

  • Did you forget an item of clothing or just want to do a little shopping, visit the Outer Limits Retail Shop at the base, where you will find, clothing, souvenirs, hats, gloves, goggles and many more accessories.
  • For parents with children too young for the slopes, the Little Rascals Nursery and their highly trained staff will provide care for children from 19 months to 6 years.
  • If you prefer to leave the drive from Jasper to Marmot Basin to someone else, catch the shuttle. For a small fee, the shuttle will pick you up at convenient locations throughout the town and drop you at the base daylodge. Just sit back and enjoy the scenery. Several shuttle price options exist, from a day pass to a season pass for the frequent user.
  • As there are no accommodations at Marmot Basin, staying in Jasper is the best possible choice. The town of Jasper is a quaint mountain town filled with shops, great restaurant fare and nightly entertainment. It is a place to take that casual stroll and enjoy the surrounding mountain views and possibly see the occasional wildlife.
  • Perhaps you want to take a day away from the slopes but still need to be outdoors. There are many activities waiting just for you, cross-country ski trails, guided snowshoeing, skating on a frozen lake, canyon walks and wildlife tours.
