Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in Central California & Escape2ski connect you to skiing, snowboarding, snow reports, trail maps, lift tickets, lodging & webcams. Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is located near the town of Mammoth Lakes, California in the Inyo National forest of Central California and was the vision of Dave McCoy who opened the resort in 1955. The ski and snowboard resort has grown from the early days into a four season resort that has gained world attention. Dave McCoy operated the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area for 68 years until his retirement in 2005. Mammoth Mountain is the tallest ski area in California with a peak elevation of over 11,000ft/3353m. It also has one of the longest ski seasons in North America, averaging from November to June each year. The group from Escape2ski was greeted during our weeklong visit, to great snow conditions, sunshine and 50F/10C temperatures. This is not unusual as the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area receives an average of over 300 days of sunshine and 400in/1016cm of snowfall every year.

On the Slopes:
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area’s 28 lifts give you access to 150 trails, and 3500 acres of uncrowded slopes. More than half the runs are suitable for those with a beginner or intermediate skill range. More advanced skiers will want to take the panoramic Gondola ride to the top to check out the upper bowl.

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area offers a variety of terrain that is suited to all levels of skiing or snowboarding ability. If you are looking for some cruising terrain or an advanced/expert run, like Dave’s Run, Mammoth Mountain has it.

Start your day with sunshine and blue sky, and hit the slopes at the Main Lodge then make the journey over to Eagle Lodge for lunch. On your journey, you will be greeted with great terrain and beautiful views from the higher elevations.

Off the Slopes:
At the end of your day, there are many options to reflect on your days experience, from bars and restaurants at the many base lodges or a short commute to the town of Mammoth Lakes on the Mammoth transit service. Note: local bus service is “free”.

There are many options for lodging on the mountain, depending on your tastes and desires, ranging from the ski-in ski-out Mammoth Mountain Inn, the charm of the Tamarack Lodge, and Juniper Springs and the Village Lodge located at the base of Mammoth Mountain in the Pedestrian Village. The town of Mammoth Lakes also features many wonderful hotels and motels to fit every budget, which are close to public transit and provide easy access to the ski area.

The Mammoth Lakes airport is located 6 miles or 10 km from the ski area. There are several shuttle services available to take you to and from the airport.

Flying into Mammoth provides a nice time saving option from driving. Keep in mind that the airport is subject to changing weather conditions and you may experience delays.
