Howelsen Hill Ski Area is located on Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The mountain is owned and operated by the City of Steamboat Springs and has the distinction of being Colorado’s oldest continuously operated ski area.

Howelsen Hill Ski Area opened in 1915 and is the largest and most complete natural ski jumping complex in North America. It has been the training ground for more than 79 Olympians who have made over 130 Winter Olympic appearances.

Even thought the Mountain is not as large as others in the area, it offers affordable skiing and snowboarding for all levels. It even hosts a few black diamonds runs, and in particular the upper and lower face will offer a challenge to most skiers or snowboarders.

Night skiing is offered on select nights, and if the night is clear you’ll have a postcard view of the City of Steamboat Springs.

During your time on the slopes you may also get an opportunity to see present and future Olympians training at Howelsen Hill Ski Area. If the occasion presents itself, you’ll definitely find it worth your time to check out the ski jumping practice as you’ll gain a new appreciation for the sport.

You’ll also want to take advantage of the spectacular views of the surrounding area, from the City of Steamboat Springs to the Yampa Valley and the Steamboat Ski Resort. Escape2ski managed to take some awesome photos from this ski area.
