Harper Mountain Ski Area in British Columbia and Escape2ski connect you to skiing, snowboarding, snow reports, trail maps, lift tickets, lodging & webcams. Harper Mountain Ski Area is located on Mt Harper, just a short distance from Paul Lake Provincial Park, northeast of the city of Kamloops, British Columbia. Harper Mountain Ski Area was the vision of Max Daburger, a native of Bavaria, Peter Huser from Switzerland and Canadian, Paul Noelle. Max Daburger moved to Canada in 1951 where his skills as a carpenter led him to home building and working as a general contractor in the Kamloops area. Despite his busy work life and raising four children with his wife Elizabeth, Max still maintained his passion for skiing and the dream of one-day opening and operating a ski facility. Several years and many hikes later, Max finally discovered the perfect location for his dream to become a reality and started the process by forming Harper Mountain Ski Lifts Ltd. What is so interesting about this story is that Max was able to draw upon his many skills and take a hands-on approach to designing, building and opening Harper Mountain Ski Area to the public in December 1973. It opened with one T-Bar, a Handle Tow, 3 or 4 runs and a day lodge that was constructed by Max and fellow friends. Harper Mountain Ski Area was created with the goal of building a truly family-friendly experience that everyone from the surrounding area and beyond could enjoy. It was not until 1977, that Harper Mountain installed its first chairlift, a triple, named the Huser Triple in honor of Peter Huser, Max’s friend and co-founder. Members of the Daburger family, along with Max’s sister Maria, are still involved in the operation of the ski area and continue to make this a special place for all to enjoy. Escape2ski had the privilege to speak with Elizabeth and Lisa (daughter-in-law) who were able to share their continued passion for the business, insights about the mountain and the many memories created for and by those who have visited. Harper Mountain Ski Area remains a true to its family-friendly roots, which is evidenced by the return of generations of families to this wonderful gem of a ski area.

At Escape2ski you’ll find out – What to know…before the snow.
